I was lucky enough to be brought onto the Skippers View team before the 2024 MLB Season kicked off, so I was able to share my 3 favorite season long futures bets with the wonderful audience that’s reading this now. As of yesterday with the Oakland A’s winning their 58th game, we are profitable with the Futures card, which I will share below with links to my masterful predictions in case you want to jog your memory.
Marlins Under 78.5 Wins (5U) WIN
Mariners Over 87.5 Wins (2U) LOSS
Shohei Ohtani ML MVP (+200, .5U) PENDING
Cashing the biggest bet of my life on the Marlins Under after WAY overperforming in 2023 was a wonderful feeling. Especially making it happen in August. I knew enough ball to even predict the fire sale, Tim Anderson DFA, and the struggle in tight games after winning over 70% of 1-run games in 2024. It was the definition of “I know ball.” I’m not one to typically brag on my bets or takes but this is one I’m extremely proud of and feel like it’s deserved
With the A’s having a historically bad season in 2023 (2024 White Sox clear), it resulted in them having the lowest win total ever released. I saw the vision in 2023 with some young fun talent, and they added to it in 2024 with guys like Brent Rooker having a career year, Mason Miller (my first great take), Lawrence Butler, and Shae Langeliers breaking out, this team was more than talented enough from a lineup perspective to be a 60-win group. It was gross, the masses didn’t love it, but man was this fun. I’m genuinely looking forward to A’s baseball in the future despite them leaving Oakland
The Mariners was my one dud. Technically it’s still pending but they’d have to win 20/28 to the end the season and that just isn’t happening. The read felt right, the pitching was top 5 in the MLB all season but again, the offense was atrocious. Striking out over 30% as a team is abysmal, but this roster continues to suck me in when I look on paper. I am forever blacklisting this team, they’re too sexy on paper and never perform the way they should.
I saw Shohei Ohtani was +200 to win NL MVP back in late June, and there was no way I could pass up on it. This is still pending but this line is over -1000 currently, and he could potentially have a 50/50 season. I’m not gonna say this is a winner yet, but it’s looking awfully damn good.
Overall, a great year 1 for the Skippers View Futures card! Hopefully someone out there tailed me on it, and if not, hopefully you enjoyed my analysis of the three teams I bet!
Futures Card (current): 2-1 +4.2U
Futures Card (w/ Ohtani W): 3-1 +5.2U
