As some of you know, I have begun putting video essays up on YouTube. For some reason, compared to the number of followers, they get a bunch of views and watch time. Simple math has shown me that if I do one a week and they perform similarly, I can monetize my channel by December. With that being said, I also figured I would take the scripts I used to make the video and form it into a blog.
For a twist, I am throwing my script into ChatGPT and telling it to put it into blog format.
I am sure Brett will say these blogs shouldn’t count in my analytical analysis. But shove it, Brett.
I have put the video below if you want to check it out and subscribe. You can also here what the script was compared to what artificial intelligence interpreted it as. Enjoy!
Hello, baseball fans! Dean here from The Skippers View. As we venture into the 2024 baseball season, I couldn’t resist diving into the deep end of award predictions. Sure, it’s only January, but isn't it thrilling to forecast who'll grab the spotlight this year? Let’s get into it, shall we?
American League MVP: Corey Seager
First up, the American League MVP. Last year's runner-up, Corey Seager, showed incredible prowess, boasting a 6.9 WAR in just 119 games. His stats? A jaw-dropping .327/.623 slugging and a 1.013 OPS. Given Ohtani’s shift to the NL, Seager seems poised to snatch his first MVP, provided he maintains his health and performance. Keep an eye on Juan Soto, though; he's a formidable contender.
National League MVP: Mookie Betts
Moving over to the National League, my MVP pick might surprise you. I'm betting on Mookie Betts, who’s not just a phenomenal outfielder but now also the starting second baseman for the Dodgers. Last season, Betts notched a .307/.579/.987 slash line with a career-high 39 homers. His impressive 8.3 WAR and 163 OPS+ speak volumes. Betts is hitting his stride, and 2024 might just be his year.
AL Cy Young: Gerrit Cole
The AL Cy Young is a tougher call, but I’m leaning towards Gerrit Cole. His staggering 7.4 WAR last year speaks for itself. Sure, there’s talk about Pablo Lopez, but Cole’s consistency with the Yankees, even considering a slight dip in 2022, makes him my pick for back-to-back wins.
NL Cy Young: Spencer Strider
For the NL Cy Young, let's talk about Spencer Strider. With Snell’s future uncertain, Strider seems like a strong bet. His 2023 performance was remarkable: almost 300 strikeouts and a 2.85 FIP. Strider's combination of skills and stats make him a prime candidate for the Cy Young, especially if he crosses the 200-inning and 300-strikeout thresholds in 2024.
AL Rookie of the Year: Jackson Holliday
Now, for the fun part – AL Rookie of the Year. My pick? Jackson Holliday. With stats like .323/.499/.941 OPS across four teams and a promising all-around skill set, Holliday has what it takes to shine in the majors. He's got competition, especially from Evan Carter, but I’m betting on Holliday’s blend of hype and talent.
NL Rookie of the Year: Yoshinobu Yamamoto
Lastly, NL Rookie of the Year. Yoshinobu Yamamoto is a name that’s been causing a stir. At 25, he's not your typical rookie, but his phenomenal record in Japan can’t be ignored. If he adapts well to MLB, he’s the frontrunner, even against talents like Jung Hoo Lee and Noelvi Marte.
Conclusion:
So, there you have it – my predictions for the 2024 baseball awards. These picks are based on a blend of stats, past performances, and a gut feeling about the upcoming season.
