Editors Note: BBI+ is an offshoot of BBI and ABBI. I am currently testing a 0-10 scale instead of a 0-5 scale. It is not perfect yet, but we are getting there.
I hate most analytics, so I created my own.
What if one stat could tell you who the best hitters in baseball really are — not just who hits the most home runs, or who has the highest average — but who brings the most complete offensive profile to the plate? I’m talking 10 of the most important stats you will find on Baseball Savant, mushed together into one.
That’s what BBI+ is built for.
What is BBI+?
BBI+ (Batting Boost Index Plus) is a 0–10 rating that blends a hitter’s:
Traditional output: Batting Avg, Home Run rate, SLG
Contact quality: Exit Velo, Barrel %, Hard Hit %, Sweet Spot %
Plate discipline: K%, Whiff %, O-Swing Miss %
It scores players across 10 different components, then averages them. The result is a single number — on a simple, fan-friendly scale — that tells you how complete a hitter’s production and process really are.
This is the analytic for the common man. You can show this to your grandpa and he will be able to understand a 0-10 score. It’s like rating a pizza or a movie.
Now, the trick will be normalizing the distribution of BBI+. In the charts below, you will see that the majority of players fall in the 3.5-5.5 range. That is not ideal for an analytic that is for the “common man” as most will see 5.5 and think, “Well that isn’t good.”
I am working on that, but check out all the percentile overlays below. Right now, 90th percentile or better is 5.61 and up.

Why BBI+ Matters
BBI+ rewards smart, modern offense. Not just who hits the hardest — but who swings at the right pitches and makes those swings count.
As more teams adopt advanced bat tracking and pitch modeling, tools like BBI+ give us a sharper lens on real offensive value.
