Why did the Yankees have to lose the series to Boston? The Yankees had themselves a bittersweet week. It started with a series win against the Cleveland Guardians (34-30), where they took two out of three games, and ended with a loss in a series to arch-rival, the Boston Red Sox.
Series 1: Cleveland Guardians (Home)
Game 1: W 3-2 | Game 2: L 4-0 | Game 3: W 4-0
Series 2: Boston Red Sox (Home)
Game 1: W 9-6 | Game 2: L 10-7 | Game 3: L 11-7
The starting pitching was solid against Cleveland. Rodon, Fried, and Schmidt all threw some quality innings, even though Schmidt allowed three earned runs in the lone loss to Cleveland, but those all came in the first inning. Schmidt was able to settle down and go for 5 and â…” innings before getting pulled.
The Boston series went just a tad differently. The staff as a whole allowed twenty-seven runs across three games. Allowing your rival to rack up nine runs a game on average is terrible and will almost always end in disaster (loss).
Boston hit five bombs off Carlos Rodon last night on Sunday Night Baseball. They hit eight overall across three games. Boston was able to chew up this staff. That is not a good sign for the playoffs, as Boston (32-35) should prove to be a real contender in the 2nd half of the season, and this will be the hitting the Yankees will face come September/October. Not to mention, they did this without Alex Bregman.

What else is there to say about Aaron Judge? He is having a historic season. Take a look at this stat line.
64 GP | .396 BA | 1.264 OPS | 62 R | 23 HR | 55 RBI | 5 SB | 5.2 WAR
This is insane. What Judge is doing is incredible and cannot be talked about enough. The rest of the lineup had a solid week as well, with six total players hitting over .300 across the past seven days. Judge was joined by teammates Chisholm Jr., Bellinger, LeMahieu, Volpe, and Wells in the .300 club (for the week).
The Yankees still need to get creative at the deadline to add a bat. They need an arm before they trade for a bat, but one bat could put this team over the top offensively.
Paul Goldschmidt is having an excellent season, honestly better than what anyone could have asked for out of the thirty-seven-year-old. I would love the Yankees to go after Luis Robert Jr. or another high-upside bat, but they might not have the assets to acquire a player of this caliber. We shall see, but the deadline is drawing closer, and the options are limited.

New York hits the road with a series against the Kansas City Royals (34-32) and then gets to head to Boston to take on the Red Sox (32-35) and maybe get some redemption from this past series.
