The Return of Kershaw
The best LHP of our generation is set to make his return Wednesday vs the Giants
Read that subheader again. Yes, Clayton Kershaw is the best LHP of our generation. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably saw Kersh is set to make his return to the bump Wednesday, where he’ll get the nod against the Giants.
While I and the rest of Dodger Nation couldn’t be more excited to watch our Lord and Savior get the ball again, let’s be clear about something. This is not the same Kershaw. He is not Superman anymore, and he won’t carry this team to a magical playoff run to help out with some of the injuries. In his final rehab start in Oklahoma City, he topped out at 92, going 4 innings, 3 ER, 6 H, and 2 K. Now I’m not hanging my hat on the velo drop or rehab start stats to say he won’t have success when he’s back because I trust that man to get outs regardless of what he has that day.
I don’t want to be a negative Nancy when talking about one of my favorite pitchers of all time, but the expectations have to be realistic with where he’s at with his stuff. I will take a strong ‘5 and Dive’ from him all season, and maybe he gets shifted to the pen or opener role in the playoffs once some reinforcements get back. He is one of the lifelines of this ballclub and has been over the last decade and change.
Tune in on Wednesday; there’s gonna be fireworks!
