Somehow the Dodgers have done it again. The Los Angeles scouting department went out and identified a stud pitcher and now have yet another weapon at their disposal in the rotation. Today’s Dodger pitcher we are talking about is the one and only Bobby Miller.Â
The 24 year old was selected with the 29th overall pick by the Dodgers in the 2020 MLB Draft.Â
Fun fact: Miller was drafted after his senior year of high school (2017), where the Orioles selected him in the 38th round of the draft but he decided not to sign a professional contract at that time and instead went to go play baseball at the University of Louisville where he would go on to dominate.
Since he got the call, Miller has earned two Wins across 17 innings pitched where he owns a 1.06 ERA & 0.76 WHIP. On top of that he also has dealt out 16 strikeouts (8.5 SO/9) to only 4 walks (2.1 BB/9).
Miller has been able to accomplish this by using his five pitch mix which is highlighted by his four-seam fastball which routinely hits the upper 90’s and can touch triple digits. Although the fastball can be devastating he actually has been using the Sinker (35%) most often in the bigs thus far according to baseballsavant.com. He also has been using a Changeup, Slider & Curve. It seems as though he has his control in check, which is something that has been inconsistent in the past and the reason he was considered a high risk, high reward prospect. Turns out the Dodgers gamble is looking pretty good. His stuff is electric and I am looking forward to watching Miller impose his will on opposing lineups.
Bobby’s next start will be this Saturday on June 10th against the Phillies. Now Philly has not been playing up to their expectations but this lineup can be deadly. Can not wait to watch Harper vs Miller on Saturday!
Will he join us for a podcast someday? To be continued…
