There seems to be a mystery pitcher in Seattle. A 24 year old Texan named Bryce Miller. Miller owned a 3.65 ERA from his days in the minors through 162.2 innings. After three starts in the majors he is sitting at a 0.47 ERA. His fastball is electric and has been devastating to opposing lineups thus far.
On top of that I saw this tweet (below) from @SlangsInSports earlier this week.
“According to MLB.com's Sarah Langs, Miller's eight total baserunners allowed in his first three career outings is the fewest since at least 1901, minimum 15 innings pitched.
Next start 5.19 at Atlanta
Bryce Miller’s 3 consecutive outings of 6+ IP & no more than 3 baserunners is tied for the longest such streak since at least 1901
at ANY point in a career + it’s to START his
tied w:
2021 Blake Snell
2021 Corbin Burnes
2015-16 Jake Arrieta
2015 Clayton Kershaw

Last time I checked…those are some good names to be in the same company with. This level of dominance is unprecedented for Miller as he had a 6.41 ERA in AA ball right before receiving the call to the show. When I saw his fastball for the first time I immediately grabbed him in all of my fantasy leagues as I knew he would be able to be somewhat effective but I would be lying if I said I thought it could be at this level.
Miller’s 2023 MLB Stats:
3 GS / 3 QS / 19 IP / 2 W / 0.47 ERA / 0.42 WHIP / 18 K
Ace in the making? Are these results here to stay? Who knows? All I know is Seattle and fantasy managers who were quick enough to grab Miller from waivers like myself are very happy with his performances since joining the bigs.
