Despite being less than a month into the MLB season, I am already looking towards October, trying to find value in future bets. In my opinion, this is the best time to place future bets, as bettors and sportsbooks alike are overreacting to the few games of baseball that have been played in the young season, and there is a chance to take advantage of this. For example, around the all-star break last year, I placed about 3 future wagers, including the Diamondbacks to win the National League at +1500. I mention this not just to flex my impressive win (which was totally part of it), but to make a point regarding the potential value of future betting this time of the year. With that being said, there are a couple bets that I am considering placing for the remainder of the MLB season.
Bobby Witt Jr. leads the league in SB (+500)
It is no secret that I am very bullish on the Kansas City Royals this year, primarily because of their 23-year-old emerging superstar, Bobby Witt Jr. In 2023, Witt led the Royals in most hitting categories, including HRs, RBIs, OPS+, and, most importantly for this exercise, stolen bases. His 49 stolen bases were good for 4th in the whole league in 2023. It is also important to mention that he was caught stealing a league lead 15 times last season, a testament to his base-running aggression. The current favorite is naturally Ronald Acuna, who led the league last year with 73 SBs, but I don’t see him repeating as the stolen base champ. Now that the Royals will be a more competitive ball club in 2024, I believe Witt at +500 is very solid value.
A’s Fewest Regular Season Wins (+260)
The race for the worst record in baseball is between three teams: the Colorado Rockies, the Chicago White Sox, and the Oakland Athletics. While all of these ball clubs are embarrassing themselves and their fan bases in one way or another this season, no team epitomizes shame and misery in baseball quite like the Oakland (soon to be Las Vegas) Athletics. While the A’s currently hold a record of 8 wins and 11 losses, which is pretty good considering the expectations this season, they are a complete mess of an organization inside and out. Amidst their pending move out of Oakland, players have joined the fans in protest, showing the great disconnect between players, fans, and ownership. Even though the A’s have started off the season decently, they lack enough talent to stay competitive throughout the entire 162-game season. Take advantage of their strong start and get them at the best price they will be all season (+260) to have the worst record in baseball in 2024.
Let me know what you think about these picks @GRMBets over on twitter and throw everyone on The Skippers View Team a follow! Also did I mention that I hit D-Backs to win the NL at +1500 last year?
Alright, peace y’all!
