Editors Note: Many of you probably noticed that I sent this blog early yesterday. I knew the Red Sox were playing on Patriots Day, but my brain forgot it was the White Sox. I was just so focused on keeping the lights on here at The Skippers View that I rushed it. Hands up, it was my fault.
Overall Takeaway
I'm not going to complain about a series win. That being said, it is embarrassing to lose games to the White Sox.
For me, if the team moves Triston Casas (for pitching,) gets rid of Zach Kelly, and brings up Anthony and Mayer they make the playoffs. If they continue to keep players on the roster who have no business getting ABs, they will be a .500 team.
Game 1: Red Sox 10-1
Game 2: Red Sox 4-3
Game 3: White Sox 8-4
Game 4: Red Sox 4-2
What I Loved
Trevor Story
If he continues to play like this, the Red Sox will be forced to put Mayer at 2B. Seems like that is what they are preparing for as he has been playing the position the last few weeks.
Hunter Dobbins
Dobbins allowed just two runs on three hits in six quality innings against the White Sox in his second big league career start. His reward? Being sent back down to AAA.
If they want him to go down and get more innings, I could get behind that. But he has pitched so well, I feel like there is a spot for him. Get rid of Kelly, move Houck to bullpen, and start Dobbins.
Tanner Houck Bounceback
Lots of calls to have Tanner in the bullpen after his last start. I don’t know if I am there yet, although I would prefer Dobbins. Today’s game was great. Puts in a quality start.
Walker Buehler Being An Ace
After three innings Walker had 58 pitches. It had a five inning start written all over it. However, he got control, started throwing more strikes, and made it through seven. That is three good starts in a row for Walker.
Brayan Bello Returning
Making a start tomorrow. Doesn’t affect this series, but I am excited he is back.
Dean’s Picks
Like taking candy from a baby.
Kristian Campbell = HIM
People on X (Yankee fans) are waiting for “the league to figure Campbell out.” But if you have watched his at bats you would know that doesn’t matter. He has the eye and plate discipline of a 10 year vet. His only out today was on a clear ball that the ump missed.
What I Was "Mid" About
Liam Hendriks Debut
Loved to see him return after two years and beating cancer. Didn’t love his performance.
Wilyer Abreu
He has been on a slid since his hot start. Probably expected me to put him in “Loved,” but he left five runners on base today. So, I can’t.
Blake Sabol
He was “fine” today, and made two nice plays in a row. Better than his two error season debut a few games ago.
What I Didn't Love
Zach Kelly
The only person in the bullpen who is not reliable right now (too early to judge Hendriks.) Bring Dobbins back!
LOB (Not the Yu-Gi-Oh set)
Sox left 12 runners on base Sunda. An insane amount, especially when playing the Chicago White Sox.
Triston Casas
Yeah, he hit the walk-off on Saturday. Again, I know it seems like I harp on him a lot, but that hit had a .040 xBA and would have been an out in any other ballpark. I’m only saying that because prior to Saturday, it seemed like a lot of Red Sox Nation began to realize the best move might be to trade Casas for some pitching and move some people around so that the young players could move up. His hitting a walk-off will delay that sentiment from people.
Watching the full broadcast on Monday, it is clear to everyone that something needs to be done about Casas. Merloni and O’Brien pointed out how Cora told Casas he was changing too much.
