Overall Takeaway
Until Alex Cora and Craig Breslow start to put the best team on the field, I will continue to put them back in the “Didn’t Love” category. Very frustrating knowing that the best team is not on the field. Frankly, there is not enough justification on their part to continue doing this. LET THE KIDS PLAY!
Game 1: Tigers 14-2
Game 2: Tigers 10-9
Game 3: Tigers 6-5
What I Loved
Carlos Narvaez
6 DRS so far this year. Leads American League for catchers.
Alex Bregman
Playing like an MVP (won’t win with Judge playing like he is.)
Wilyer Abreu/Rafaela Catch
Super fun to watch. Very little skill on Rafaela’s part other than being in right spot. That ball went straight at him. Amazing effort from Abreu. Absolutely ridiculous that he did not start the game. I don’t care what Refsnyder bats against lefties, no reason your second best hitter should be sitting in a game like tonight.
What I Was "Mid" About
David Hamilton
He hit a home run, so there is that. Still need Mayer to come up and replace him.
Rafael Devers
0-6 on Tuesday, and while he was 2-5 today, he will stay in mid for now. If he knocked in those runs during the ninth inning we would be having a different story.
Kristian Campbell
Turns out Kristian Campbell did not save the ballgame Tuesday night. But he homered, so I am bumping him up to “mid” this week.
What I Didn't Love
Defense
Easy to just immediately point out the terrible throw by Wong that just lost the team the game, but the entire series the defense was lack luster. Outside the Abreu/Rafaela catch, there was nothing great.
Brayan Bello
Was not able to get five innings in on Tuesday. His 2.33 ERA looks great, but his 1.41 WHIP is a foreshadowing of what is to come if he doesn’t cut down the walks.
Tanner Houck
Second game of 11 or more runs this season. Hit the IL today, and I expect that when he returns he will be in the bullpen with Whitlock where he belongs. For two years I campaigned for Whitlock and Houck to be groomed as the set up man and closer for the Red Sox. Instead, they broke down both players.
Alex Cora and Craig Breslow
Team is .500, playing the best team in the American League, against the best pitcher in baseball, with an off day tomorrow….. So, he sits the teams 2nd best hitter (Abreu.)
Make it make sense.
Mayer and Anthony need to be called up.
