Overall Takeaway
Passing the Yankees in the standings was great. Becoming of the best teams in MLB was great. Signing Roman Anthony to a 8-year $130 million contract is AMAZING.
I don’t have any profound thing to say about the signing, I am just happy that Anthony choose to do this deal now. I listed some of the players that are now locked up for at least the next six years. I really hope Breslow turns towards Mayer and locks him up before the season ends. The vibes off the signings alone would make a successful season for me, regardless of how the team finishes.
That being said, Boston has been playing out of their mind since June. Even with the loss today, they still hold a 2 game lead for the top Wild Card spot. Vibes are high.
Game 1: Red Sox 8-5
Game 2: Red Sox 6-2
Game 3: Royals 7-3
What I Loved
Roman Anthony Contract
I obviously covered it in the Overall Takeaway, but wanted to make sure to put it in the “loved” section.
Brayan Bello
Bello not crumbling with the bases loaded early in the game was the moment for me. He has not given up more than three runs since May 18th. Is he an ace yet? No, but he is a damn good #2.
Jarren Duran
Unbelievable defense in both Game 1 and Game 3 in terms of cool looking catches. He is sitting around .800 OPS which is surprising considering his peaks and valleys this year.
Garrett Crochet
Crochet was great again on Tuesday going seven while giving up two runs.
If the Red Sox win the East, I think he deserves Cy Young.
Romy Gonzalez
Not only is Romy still betting .300 with a .900 OPS, he is also stepping up and playing 2B. Now is he doing great? Well, not really, but he is doing it.
What I Was "Mid" About
Dustin May
I think May will be a valuable arm come playoffs, yes the Red Sox are making it, but I don’t see him becoming a pitcher that can go seven innings.
Threw 91 pitches and couldn’t even get thru four innings. Again, I’m a huge fan and want him on this team, but I feel like he should be paired with Matz and have one of them take the first three innings. I know, terrible idea, but it’s mine.
What I Didn't Love
Rafaela At 2B
It is another series win so I don’t really know what to complain about. However, I still don’t love when Rafaela has to play 2B. When the outfield is Anthony, Abreu, and Rafaela, they are the best in the league in terms of defense. While Duran made some great plays on Monday, I almost prefer him at DH. Sorry Masataka.
Carlos Narvaez Injury
Outside of Crochet, this is probably the worst injury that could happen. Narvaez has been the foundation of this team. Beyond that, there really isn’t anyone to replace him. Connor Wong has been horrendous this year, although he got a hit tonight. As of me writing this, there is no word on the severity of the injury. While he was able to finish the game Tuesday, any knee issue for a catcher is very concerning.
