Overall Takeaway
Red Sox were going into the weekend ready to play the hottest team in baseball. Then BAM, Rafael Devers starts one of the biggest drama shows in recent Red Sox history. That is not to say I don’t agree with him, I actually do. Probably in the minority there.
When Boston lost on Friday, some very large Red Sox personalities began whining that the Red Sox need to shake things up FAST. Now on Sunday, they are in a Wild Card game spot and still very much fighting for 1st in the AL East. Those same personalities are back to glazing the team they hated two days ago. It is exhausting.
Game 1: Royals 2-1
Game 2: Red Sox 10-1
Game 3: Red Sox 3-1
What I Loved
Rafael Devers
Rafael Devers is now batting .280 with an .888 OPS.
Want to silence annoying Red Sox fans that are calling for you to be traded? Go 8-12 in the series and knock in runs every game.
Garrett Crochet
Sub 2.00 ERA for the year so far.
Carlos Narvaez
I have avoided adding Narvaez to this list early on. He really was not doing anything offensively, and while his defense is great, it isn’t blog worthy. Saturday, he changed that by bringing his OPS over .700 for the season.
Bullpen
I am keeping the bullpen in the loved section until they implode. They have been one of the best in the league.
Hunter Dobbins
Quite the rookie move on Breslow’s part to send Dobbins down last month. Second time this season he has gone six innings and not walked anyone. Not striking guys out at a crazy rate, but gets the job done. His split-finger and sweeper have been his best pitches thus far.
Lucas Giolito
Terrible start last series, followed by great start today. His velocity is starting to get up there, and if it does his slider will be even better (which in the past has been his best pitch)
What I Was "Mid" About
Jarren Duran.. I Guess
I want to keep him in “mid” for one more week. However, his OPS his only .020 higher than Rafaela. That is not sustainable at the top of the order. He has been very streaky, but still tears up the base paths. I am hoping for a better series in Detroit.
What I Didn't Love
Kristian Campbell
Kristian is tumbling back to earth at the moment. I think a lot of fans saw this coming. For me, I noticed he was VERY low on my BBI and BBI+ rankings. It was a huge outlier based on his production, but the percentile rankings were showing a different story.
John Henry Flying Out To Rafael Devers
Alright, hear me out. I think on the surface one would appreciate the act of the owner stepping in and trying to quell a situation before it gets too big. However, I just feel that Henry has been so out of touch with the team the past few years and there have been other moments where he could have stepped in and he didn’t.
David Hamilton
Get him off the MLB roster. Enough is enough.
