Overall Takeaway
Regardless of the outcome Wednesday night, it was nice to see the team go into a crucial series and come out with a win. With the standings so tight, there is a real chance they could tie the Royals for a Wild Card spot. However, the Red Sox now have the tiebreaker, and thank god for that because I want nothing to do with Bobby Witt Jr to come October.
I highlighted the Red Sox offense in a post yesterday, but I will put the numbers below for those who did not see it.
AVG- 1st/ HR- 6th/ SB- 6th/ Runs 5th/ OBP- 3rd/ SLG- 2nd/ OPS- 1st
With an offense like this, the sky is the limit. Sadly, I don’t see how this pitching staff will take the Sox deep into the playoffs. A lot of their guys have hit, or are about to hit, all-time highs in terms of IP, and it is showing. Hopefully, pushing back Pivetta’s start will get him right.
Game 1: Red Sox 9-5
Game 2: Red Sox 6-5
Game 3: Royals 8-4
What I Loved
Beating Seth Lugo
I have nothing against Seth, but he is the Cy Young favorite in the AL, Or at least he was until the Red Sox came in and beat him.
James Paxton
QS from a left-handed pitcher is a change of pace for the Sox.
Masataka Yoshida
I find it funny that Cora came out and said, "This is the guy we envisioned when we signed him." I seem to remember earlier this season, Yoshida, for some reason, ended up on the bench when he was getting hot. Hmmm. Interesting.
Romy Gonzalez
Two home runs in this series, doubling his season total. I have ragged on him a lot for being on the team, but I will give it where it is justified. He is earning his place.
Bobby Witt Jr
I like good baseball. Bobby Witt Jr is the best at baseball right now. He is my MVP, regardless of what Aaron Judge has done to this point.
What I Was "Mid" About
Brayan Bello
I love Bello, and I have been buying up his rookie cards like candy because I believe in him long-term. However, we need to stop normalizing 4.2 IP while giving up three runs. A lot of baseball Twitter accounts were calling it “another solid performance.” What world am I living in that this is a solid performance?
Kutter Crawford
He didn’t stand a chance against Bobby Witt Jr. He is also the king of giving up home runs, 13 in his last four starts, and I don’t see that going away.
I love him and his fantastic chest hair, but I hope he can find a role next year in the bullpen while the team goes and gets real starters.
What I Didn't Love
I don’t love how their are hundreds of people that read these reviews and aren’t subscribed to our website. It’s free; come on, people.
