Overall Takeaway
Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony, and Kristian Campbell all being up at the same time is as exciting as I thought it was going to be. Boston gets swept this series if it wasn’t for their Big Three, and one has to wonder how many games they could have won over the past month and a half if there was less hesitation in calling them up. But that is in the past, and we are now only going to have positive thoughts.
Game 1: Rays 10-8
Game 2: Red Sox 3-1
Game 3: Red Sox 4-3
What I Loved
How Much I Loved This Past Week
As you can see, I have a lot of players in the loved section in this review. It’s impossible not to be romantic about the Red Sox right now. Everything that fans have been waiting for the last six months is finally coming to fruition, and I am here for it.
Roman Anthony
I put Roman into my “loved” section last serious. I made the decision to include him regardless of whether him being in the majors or not. Well, now he is in the majors, and the vibe of the Red Sox has completely changed.
Marcelo Mayer
And just like that, Mayer has a .854 OPS…..
Kristian Campbell
Felt like fate that the same day Ken Rosenthal put out an article about Kristian Campbell getting demoted for poor defense, Kristian Campbell went out and made multiple great plays at second base.
Over the last seven days, he has a .286 AVG/ 1 HR/ 5 RBI/ .876 OPS.
Lucas Giolito
Giolito, so far this season, has gone- quality start, blow up, quality start, blow up, quality start, blow up, quality start, blow up. He wanted to make sure to keep with that routine and put in a quality start on Tuesday against the Rays.
Brayan Bello
Back-to-back quality starts for Bello. His poor outing was on May 18th, and he has slowly shown improvement in each outing. He will have a big test this weekend against the Yankees.
Trevor Story
Forget about his stats, just look at this bat flip.
Abraham Toro
Batting .414 over the last seven days. As I pointed out in my previous review, he has over 1,000 MLB at-bats. So, eventually, I imagine he will begin to play like he has for his entire career. Until then, I am eating it all up.
Bullpen
I am keeping the bullpen in here for one more week. Over the last seven days, they have a 5.10 ERA and have been used more than any pen outside of Oakland. If the Big Three can develop quickly, the Front Office’s eyes should turn to acquiring more bullpen arms.
What I Was "Mid" About
Walker Buehler
I am not prepared to put Buehler in the “loved” section yet. Will gladly take a quality start to win the series.
What I Didn't Love
Ghost Runner
The worst thing that came from COVID has to be the ghost runner. Feels like every time the Red Sox go to extras, they immediately give up a run. Now, Boston had no business being in that game and extending it to the 11th, but I still can’t stand this rule.
