Overall Takeaway
Similar to a week ago when all the Red Sox needed to do was win Game 3 to regain their playoff spot, they collapsed. More specifically, their bullpen collapsed… again. Liam Hendriks can not get here fast enough! I know I am not a “baseball expert,” but if Kenley Jansen can’t go out there three games in a row they are in trouble. I know it is still August, but this felt like a must win game.
Game 1: Red Sox 5-4
Game 2: Red Sox 9-4
Game 3: Rangers 9-7
What I Loved
Brayan Bello
As the wise Brett said on our podcast. “Red Sox need to ramp him up and trade him.” I don’t think they are going to trade him, but he is slowly ramping up!
Rob Refsnyder
Rob definitely has more power against lefties, but I was surprised to see his splits aren’t sooo different.
Connor Wong’s Flexibility
No, it's not his ability to do a split. I just love how he has turned into a player who you could throw anywhere on the field to help with matchups as the game goes on. With Kyle Teel moving up the ladder, it seems like the natural progression for Wong to become a utility player.
He also had a great offensive series for the cherry on top.
Nick Sogard
Has been solid offensively, but the defensive side is what is more exciting. For a team that leads the league in errors, Sogard has seemingly become a defensive anchor. Of course, he left the game yesterday with an injury, so let’s hope that is nothing.
Kutter Crawford NOT GIVING UP A HOME RUN
Don’t look at his full stat line. Just look at the big fat ZERO under HR’s.
What I Was "Mid" About
Watching Ceddanne Rafaela Track Balls (Sometimes)
You would think that with the crazy plays that Rafaela makes, he would have pretty good defensive metrics. And, while his CF numbers are solid, his time at SS has pulled down his overall metrics; however, even when he is in CF, where I feel like I could do a better job with a routine fly than him.
I still love him, but it's just a thought.
What I Didn't Love
The bullpen
No duh.
Dean’s Corner
I once again mixed up the games for this series. I saw the Red Sox were playing Thursday, and just assumed it was the Rangers. So apologies to those who like to see these 30 seconds after the game ends.
