Editors Note: I am giving away a Chrome Blaster from 2025 Topps. I am going to post it one more time tomorrow and then announce the winner on Tuesday.
Overall Takeaway
My review is a little delayed today, but for good reason. I recently posted about a very cool website that my two friends and I are building. I will be going more in-depth about it in the coming weeks, but we had a meeting tonight so my friend who is coding the website can show me what he has done, and boy, is it crazy. If you love baseball and analytics, you are going to love what we built. So, keep an eye out for that. Now, this is not a Skippers View venture, but I will be sharing it with everyone here. Within The Skippers View world, I am working on some fun all-time lists and a book that I will release chapter by chapter right here on my blog.
Back to the Sox.
Felt like it was May again with the quality of the starting pitching that was presented. I think I was most surprised by the way Red Sox Twitter turned on David Hamilton and Alex Cora on Saturday night. For Hamilton, everyone went after the bunting and the stolen base. Look, I genuinely believe I would have had a better bunt attempt than Hamilton did. It was atrocious. However, he was essentially ripped off the bag by Xander during the stolen base attempt. For him and Cora to become the #1 and #2 trending topics on X for me was insane. Whether you like it or not, Cora has led this team to a great record thus far. Deal with it.
Game 1: Red Sox 10-2
Game 2: Padres 5-4
Game 3: Padres 6-2
What I Loved
Offense On Friday
Every player in the starting lineup reached base on Friday. It wasn’t against a washed-up Yu Darvish either. It was against former teammate, and current stud, Nick Pivetta.
Roman Anthony
Played great on Friday, came up clutch on Saturday, and was productive on Sunday. Reached base in all three games, but struck out a little more than we have seen.
Walker Buehler
Buehler pitched great on Friday. He worked the zone, was efficient, and didn’t crumble when he got men on base. Do I think he should have gone on Twitter a few hours later and say can he “yesh yet” while he has a 5.40 ERA? Nah, but I still loved his performance.
Masataka Yoshida Hitting A Home Run
It feeds families.
ZERO ERRORS
Not committing any errors doesn’t mean you played great defense. But for one of the worst defensive teams in baseball, this is a big win.
What I Was "Mid" About
Connor Wong
I loved Wong last year, and by all accounts, he is a great teammate/clubhouse guy. So, his slow warming up is great. He is never going to get the starting role back, but he could make a great backup.
What I Didn't Love
Brayan Bello
For those who are new to these blogs, just because a player ends up in the “Didn’t Love” section doesn’t mean they are stuck here. It is truly series by series. And yeah, this was bound to happen after Bello went two months of playing great. I don’t think he is going to regress back to the previous walk machine he was in the past year. Will get a relatively easy matchup against the Marlins later in the week.
Lucas Giolito
Six walks in 4.2 innings is bad. Giolito could not find the zone, and Cora was dead set on him going out there and trying to get five innings to keep the bullpen fresh. You could easily point to that and say that is why they lost the game. Steven Matz was great and is somewhat stretched out. Don’t be afraid to use him.
