Overall Takeaway
I mistakenly skipped hanging out with my girlfriend on Friday instead of Sunday. So, here I am, watching some weird realtor show on Netflix with the Red Sox game on my AirPods. I said I had diarrhea so I could keep going to the bathroom and write this quick blog.
The biggest takeaway from this series is that Jackson Merrill will be an All-Star and should probably be Rookie of the Year. Skenes is the only competition he has at this point.
What I Loved
Rafael Devers
Devers played great in this series yet again. What is more impressive is his stats across the season, though. In the last episode, I said I didn't think he would be able to touch Jose Ramirez this year. Then, I dove into the stats.
Devers is on pace to set career highs in OBP, SLG, OPS, and OPS+.
SLG, OPS, and wRC+ (152) while ranking second in homers with 18.
Devers might trail in homers and RBIs, but he is the top dog everywhere else.
Jarren Duran
Did he play fantastic in this series? Sort of. He hit for power, which was great, but primarily, it is an absolute sham that he is not a finalist for the All-Star game. You should have to take a test before being able to vote. Sue me for thinking that.
What I Was "Mid" About
Starting Pitching
Pivetta looked great until the wheels fell off in the 5th.
Houck was probably hungover from birthday celebrations. For the first time this season, he gave up more than four runs. It had to happen eventually.
Winckowski has actually been their best starter recently. In his last seven games, he has had a 1.90 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and four starts. He has only given up two runs in those games he started.
What I Didn't Love
Everything about Friday's game
I told my girlfriend I didn't want to see "The Quiet Place" on Friday as I don't like horror movies. Yet, there I was Friday night watching the Padres score nine runs in the 5th inning.
