The Red Sox are so back, baby.
Overall Takeaway
You can say this about many teams, but when all the pieces are clicking, it is clear this is a World Series-caliber squad. Garrett Crochet is the best pitcher since Sale, and having an ace and young star (Campbell) is reminiscent of 2018. That is not me declaring a World Series run. I do think with the current set up this is the best team in the American League East.
Game 1: Orioles 8-5
Game 2: Red Sox 3-0
Game 3: Red Sox 8-4
What I Loved
Kristian Campbell
Every time I watch Campbell play, I think of Mookie Betts. Want to know Campbell’s favorite player? Mookie Betts.
Campbell is the best player on the team right now. We will see how long that lasts as pitchers will inevitably start to figure him out. But I am going to enjoy every moment of this. Have not felt excitement like this
Garrett Crochet
Same as Campbell, I loved both his performance in this series and his contract. Whose contract do I like more? Honestly, probably Campbell. By no means does that mean I am upset with Crochet’s contract. I would have been very disappointed if they were unable to lock him up after trading some top talent. He
Most Of The Bullpen
Chapman still slinging 100mph at 37 years old is insane.
The bullpen was one of the lone bright spots against the Rangers, and with the exception of Slaten imploding, they were great again against the Orioles, giving up five total runs (four of which were Slaten’s)
Alex Bregman
Bregman was …. solid. The defense is definitely there. But until Thursday, we did not see any pop. Finally saw it in the first inning today, which bumped him up from “mid” to “loved.”
What I Was "Mid" About
Rafael Devers and Triston Casas
Moving them both up from “Didn’t Love” to “Mid”…. I am probably still leaning towards don’t love yet, but they have shown some life here in the Baltimore series, so let’s see where this goes.
Jarren Duran
I have been thinking about two things the past few days.
1. Do the Red Sox not think as highly of Duran as we thought… 2. What did Duran think of the extensions that happened this week?
Duran was one of the best players in the American League last year, but the team did not give him an extension. Campbell has been up for six days and got an eight-year deal.
Trevor Story
Some pop, then back to not making contact with the ball.
I want to see Marcelo Mayer…
What I Didn't Love
Honestly, Nothing
I guess I could put the lack of production from Rafaela and the catchers, but that is about it.
