Red Sox vs Marlins Series Review

The Marlins Suck.

Overall Takeaway

I know the Marlins are bad, but I don’t see how this team has won 30 games. Their top hitter, Chisholm, is hitting .258 with a .739 OPS. (Editors Note: I wrote this before they came back and made it a game. I will not revoke the previous statements. They still stink)

It is too early to think about the Wild Card too much, but it is nice that the Red Sox are right there. It will be a battle between the Twins, Royals, Sox, and Astros. It should be fun!

I will be at Fenway on Tuesday, July 9th. I already told the Red Sox X account that I will throw our the first pitch if needed.

What I Loved

• Ceddanne Rafaela

  • His average and OPS still have room for improvement, but he has a real chance at 100 RBIs in his rookie season. The defense was never a question, and now that the hitting is starting to come together, his contract looks better and better.

• Jarren Duran

  • Has started the first 86 games.

  • If he is not announced on the All-Star roster on Sunday, I will protest at Fenway Park on Tuesday.

  • Did you see that throw from centerfield? It was art.

• Starters

  • Brayan Bello- The argument could be made that this was the most significant start of his career, and he showed up. Brett said, “They need to ramp him up and trade him.” Shut up, Brett.

  • Kutter Crawford- He has strung together four quality starts in a row. Looks like he is back.

  • Nick Pivetta- Against the Padres, he was unhittable until he wasn’t. Today, he was just unhittable. Great rebound.

• Tyler O’Neill

  • I saw Chris Cotillo report that O’Neill barged into Cora’s room when he was going to sit him on Thursday. Unsurprisingly, Cora saw those biceps and crawled under his desk. He went on to go and play a major factor in the game.

• Kenley Jansen

  • I was a big hater of Jansen early on, but I have to admit that he has been great recently. I wish he could go more than one inning. Zach Kelly got put in a tough spot.

What I Was "Mid" About

• Will Middlebrooks In The Booth

  • I am not going to lie. I don’t love him in the booth. Is there some bias on my part because he ignored a DM I sent him two weeks ago? Yes, yes, there is. Ignoring that, I didn’t love him in the booth these games.

• David Hamilton

  • This is more of a critique of Alex Cora. Let him play through the slump. He steals and scores every time he is on base, and Emmanuel Valdez does not.(Editors Note: I wrote this before Valdez had a clutch hit in the 11th. I stand by my first statement.)

What I Didn't Love

• Cora Trying To Sit O’Neill Thursday

  • Go to another team Cora.

• Cora Taking Pivetta Out

  • Let him cook.

• MLB Rules

  • I’m just not a fan of the stupid blocking-the-plate rule. Call me a boomer.
