Ladies and gentlemen. MLB Insider Matt Rosen’s take on the game.
“This Andrew Bailey guy might know what he’s doing.”- Matt Rosen
Overall Takeaway
Another hard-fought series against a playoff contender. Congrats to the No Dowd About It team for seeing the 17-0 win.
The Red Sox are still the weirdest team in baseball, and I will not be convinced by anyone that they couldn’t make a run.
Pour one out for Bobby Dalbec. If I were a gambling man, which I am not right now even though I made $400 betting the Red Sox the first 15 games of the season (Flex), I would bet that Dalbec gets the cut tomorrow. Garret Cooper is slated to arrive Tuesday, and a spot needs to open up for him.
Game 1: Cubs 7-1
Game 2: Red Sox 17-0
Game 3: Red Sox 5-4
What I Loved
Masataka Yoshida Revenge Game
He goes 4-5 on Saturday night after getting shafted on Friday by Cora. He was 1-2 on Sunday night until he was pulled for an unknown reason.
Tyler O’Neil
WALK OFF KING
He has confirmed he would do the HR Derby.
Hit home runs in back-to-back games. His biceps are looking fabulous, as always.
Here are his stats after Saturday’s game.
Kutter Crawford and Tanner Houck Going Six Innings
Andrew Bailey is a confirmed superhero.
Rafaela Break Out Game
After driving in seven on Saturday, Rafaela is now the team leader in RBIs!
DEFENSE
Only one error in this series! Not only that, but some great plays in the field by Valdez, Abreu, and Rafaela over the three nights.
What I Was "Mid" About
Jarren Duran
He is starting to get cold. He is batting .138 in his last seven games and starting to strike out more. He had a great triple today; there was lighting on the basepaths between that and him going first to third on the Devers single.
Rafael Devers
Clutch hit in the 9th inning. But I want to see more from him.
What I Didn't Love
Alex Cora… Again
He robbed us of a Masataka Yoshida vs. Shota Imanaga matchup. Lifetime, Masataka is 6-11 against Shota. I’m not an analytic guru, but that seems like a pretty good number.
Cora pulled him from Game 3 in this 6th inning. There is no news yet about whether he was hurt. If he isn’t, then we have a problem.
I loved Sunday Night Baseball, cutting to Yoshida when Cora talked about dealing with people in the clubhouse. A +++.
