Overall Takeaway
In an attempt to get my fiancée used to having to watch Red Sox games, I asked if we could tune into the Saturday game together and watch the game.
It could not have been a worse game to try this, and within 30 minutes, I was in the attic watching by myself.
Hopefully, that will not be the case for long. I am happy to announce that The Skippers View has been approved for the MLB Credential Portal. What does that mean? Well, I can apply for press credentials to any MLB game or event. Of course, I will need to be approved by the team, but this is the beginning of something big. Gratitude to those who have been following the blog for the past two years. Keep watching for big things.
Back to the Sox
If you look at the records, this came off as a series between two fluttering teams. But the Braves are great at home, 16-9 going into the series, and have begun to play better baseball with the return of Acuna. Now they go back to Fenway and play three against the Angels before facing off against the Yankees in New York. This next series could be the momentum they need to turn things around.
Game 1: Red Sox 5-1
Game 2: Braves 5-0
Game 3: Red Sox 3-1
What I Loved
Abraham Toro
Showed some power and has been getting the job done at first base. Not a long-term solution by any means, but it has performed better than Triston Casas did. Cora, hopefully, will keep Toro here and have Campbell stay at first.
Marcelo Mayer Defense
I am just excited to have him in the loved section, so I really had no choice but to highlight his glove.
Garrett Crochet
12 Ks, one mistake, only man giving this team life.
Trevor Story
Happy to see some pop out of him this series. I was surprised to see all the fans on X talk about how they never doubted Story….. yet they have tweets saying to bench Story. What a world.
Bullpen
Red Sox bullpen gave up zero runs this series. Unfortunately, Justin Slaten hit the IL. If the starters continue not to go deep, I expect more injuries to occur, and that would be devastating.
What I Was "Mid" About
Lucas Giolito
After a great start against Baltimore, Giolito was unable to go deep into Game 1 against the Braves. However, he was able to hold them to one run, which would be all they got Friday.
What I Didn't Love
Nate Eaton Being Called Up
I understand there were other contract factors that went into calling up Eaton. Still, the optics of it are frustrating.
Walker Buehler
I appreciate the fact that Walker tried to go deep into the game and ended up throwing 106 pitches. The bullpen needs a break, and I am sure that goes a long way in the clubhouse when a pitcher is willing to stay out there.
Cora Saying Campbell Is Playing First…. Then Not Using Him
Last week, I pointed out how the constant shifting of positions could be hurting Campbell. That was referring to Cora throwing him around the field and telling the press that he will be playing first in Atlanta. Well, the series is over, and Campbell never suited up at first base. It feels like something that should not be disclosed to the press unless it is going to happen.
