Overall Takeaway
The only thing worse than watching these games, would have been buying tickets and watching these games at Fenway in the freezing cold.
Absolutely crashed after the high that was Sunday Night Baseball, but Thursday injected a little bit of life back into me with this mini comeback. That being said, they had no business winning Thursday. But they will take it!
Game 1: Blue Jays 6-2
Game 2: Blue Jays 6-1
Game 3: Blue Jays 2-1
Game 4: Red Sox 4-3
What I Loved
Tanner Houck Pitching Well
First real time Houck looked how he did last year.
6.2 IP/ 1 ER/ 2K
Walker Buehler Pitching Well
Also, first time Walker has looked good this year.
6.1 IP/ 1 ER/ 7 K
Speed Demons
Second in the league in SB. Produced a lot of their runs this series from great base running (look at Duran today in the 6th.)
Aroldis Chapman
I will never defend the man outside the baseball diamond. But damn, he is a huge piece for the team so far this season. Has yet to give up a run in 2025.
What I Was "Mid" About
Ceddanne Rafaela
Stellar defense, not so stellar offense. Might hurt himself if he keeps running into walls.
Wilyer Abreu and Kristian Campbell Cooling Off
Everyone knew it was going to happen, but the team was truly riding on Abreu and Campbell the first week.
I do not like how they keep putting David Hamilton at 2B and booting Kristian Campbell to the outfield. The double play ball today that allowed the Blue Jays to take the lead should have been handled by Campbell alone. Instead, he hesitated and Story then had to rush a terrible throw.
Rafael Devers
Did not have a great series, but hey, no one did. Needs to not swing for the fences when the team is barely able to do anything. Just get the runs in!
Trevor Story
I get a lot of heat for my previous comments on Story, but I have been consistent. If he can stay healthy he is great for the team.
What I Didn't Love
DEFENSE
Red Sox lead the league in errors this season.
I keep being told that Trevor Story’s value comes almost exclusively from his defense….. I have not seen that.
Casas
He doesn’t look good at the plate. Has been fine at first base, outside a terrible error the other day where he just dropped a ball.
However, as expected Casas has made some mini waves with the release of the Red Sox documentary. I believe his quote was, “Pretty much anything that bothers people I want to do out there.”
Start hitting the ball and you can do that.
David Hamilton
0-7 in the series and taking Campbell’s natural position.
