Red Sox vs Baltimore Review

Overall Takeaway

Crazy that this series ended up being split. Red Sox seem allergic to building on momentum. Offense also loves to go from the best in baseball to the worse in a span of 12 hours.

Very bearish on the season right now, especially with the Bregman injury. Happy to see Mayer up and I hope Anthony will be up in the next two weeks. A guy can dream.

By the way, I am writing this from a Metallica concert.

Game 1: Red Sox 19-5

Game 2: Red Sox 6-5

Game 3: Baltimore 2-1

Game 4: Baltimore 5-1

What I Loved

• Marcelo Mayer

  • There was actual human beings saying Mayer should be sent down after last nights game. Those people stink.

  • 2-4 today and looked solid on defense.

• Lucas Giolito

  • Only starting pitcher to actually act like a starter this weekend.

• Rafael Devers

  • Career high 8 RBIs Friday, followed by game winner Saturday. He is the 5th ranked player in my Yahoo fantasy league behind only Judge, Ohtani, Schwarber, and Devers.

  • Why does that matter? Well it’s a keeper league and you can keep five guys. I have Ohtani and Tucker…. But I kept Vladdy over Devers :/

• Abraham Toro

  • Six hits over the series. Two of them home runs. It is very likely that Toro will never get another chance to be in my “loved” section, so I wanted to give him ….. some love.

• Jorge Mateo Effort

  • Anytime an outfielder nearly dies going over the right field wall, it deserves a hat tip.

What I Was "Mid" About

• Alex Cora and Craig Breslow

  • I promised that I would bump them up when they called up Mayer/Anthony. They are halfway there.

What I Didn't Love

• Rain

  • The rain actually allowed me to watch more games, but this bullpen can’t handle double headers with how the starters are pitching.

• Alex Bregman Injury

  • Having Mayer up is incredible. Losing Bregman to make it happen is not

• Brayan Bello And Starters

  • With the exception of Lucas Giolito, the starting rotation did nothing to help the bullpen. With the way the bullpen is getting worked, they will break down by July. Tough to be annoyed at Hunter Dobbins, but Walker Buehler and Brayan Bello need to be better.
