Overall Takeaway
Well, that was not the momentum that the Red Sox needed after taking a series against the Braves. Going into a series against the Yankees in New York, the team needed to build on the momentum of a series win. Once again, they have not done that.
While these were entertaining games to watch, my fiancé had some interest this time, they were frustrating. Wednesday was just a back and forth grudge match, but it puts the bullpen in a tough spot for the weekend.
On the bright side, at least they did not got swept!
Game 1: Angels 7-6
Game 2: Angels 4-3
Game 3: Red Sox 11-9
What I Loved
Seeing Mike Trout Again
I am a sucker for baseball history. Getting to see Mike Trout healthy is a gift.
Carlos Narvaez
I can not believe the Yankees gave him up for nothing. His strikeout numbers will eventually catch up to him, but even if he can be a .700 OPS catcher, that would be a huge win.
Abraham Toro
Toro is continuing to exceed expectations. He has reached base in 16 of the 21 games he has played in dating back to May 4th. If Rafael Devers changes his mind and chooses to play first base, he will be able to take his time in learning the position.
Brayan Bello Quality Start
It wasn’t pretty, he threw a lot of balls, he gave up a lot of hits, but he got the quality start….. Brick by brick, ramp him up.
What I Was "Mid" About
Nothing, Well I Guess Rafaela
Ceddanne finds a way to stay on the roster for another month with the walk off.
What I Didn't Love
Jarren Duran Trade Rumors
I don’t believe the Red Sox and Jarren Duran are going to come to terms on a contract that they view mutually beneficial. The Red Sox are going to want to focus on locking in their young prospects for team friendly long term deals. Duran had two bad years, one promising year, one great year, and now one “Eh” half season here in 2025. Duran has a ceiling, and I think we saw it in 2024. He is never going to hit 40 home runs, and much of his production comes from his speed. As he approaches 30, that speed will continue to diminish.
That being said, I think it is too early to be talking trade rumors for anyone on this team.
Fight At Beginning of Game 3
Two teams below .500 have no business getting into a pre-game scuffle. My understanding is that coaches were involved, but NESN and other outlets took down the videos. Never the less, it is not a good look for two teams that have struggled to stay relevant in 2025.
Trevor Story/Marcelo Mayer/Kristian Campbell
All three are struggling right now. Mayer has not exploded onto the scene like Campbell did a few months ago. In the last five weeks, Campbell is hitting .182 while Story still has under a .600 OPS.
