I am ready for the West Coast trip to be over. Ends at the perfect time as school ramps ups again tomorrow and I would be a zombie trying to watch 10pm games. I fell asleep last night only to be awoken by the Angels taking a 2-1 lead. Here is my quick series review!
Overall Takeaway
No one is going to complain about a 7-3 West Coast trip. Yes, the A’s and Angels are not powerhouses, but these are the types of games they lost last year. Even the games they lost it was close and competitive. Like I said a few days ago, they need to play well at Fenway for me to believe they could sneak a Wild Card… We will find out Tuesday how that begins.
Game 1: Red Sox Win 8-6
Game 2: Angels Win 2-1
Game 3: Red Sox Win 12-2
What I Loved
Miguel Sano Pitching
Whenever you cause a team to put their DH as the pitcher it is a good day.
POWER
Red Sox were bottom third of the league last year in terms of HR’s. Right now they are Top 5 off the back of 9 HRs this series.
Tyler O’Neil
Until he goes 0-24 he should be playing everyday.
Reese McGuire
He has doubled his HR amount from 2023. I am just happy there is offense coming from the catcher position. Clear number one now in front of Connor Wong and is leading the team in RBI’s.
Starting Pitching
Andrew Bailey might be a miracle worker. Or this will implode in a month. But for now, besides being able to go late in games,
Houck 6IP, 0 ER, 7 Ks
Whitlock 4.1 IP, 0ER, 4 Ks
Crawford 4.2 IP, 1 ER, 5 Ks
What I Was “Mid” About
Jarren Duran
He is strictly in “Mid” for not getting a hit against Miguel San
When I saw the blonde hair was gone it was a disappointment. But he came out and continued to be the complete package. Second best player at the plate and arguably the best defender at this point. His diving play Saturday was a thing of beauty.
David Hamilton
He played good defense Sunday and hit a home run. So, I will put him in my mid category for now.
With the Story injury looking more serious they will need to go get a player…. or maybe call someone up.
Nonchalant Defense
This is partly pointed at Rafaela who goes from doing too much to not being able to catch a routine line drive. Less flair, more consistent play.
What I Didn’t Love
Trevor Story Injury And Response Online
I am not a fan of Trevor Story on the Red Sox. From even before he was signed I wrote about how I felt it was not the right move. However, that does not mean I am rooting for him to go down. His defense has been great and he was starting to become a leader on the team. If you were on Twitter when the injury happened you would think the entire Red Sox team just tore their ACL’s. Declarations of the season being over went viral (which is insane.)Whether you like it or not Trevor Story has never been a factor on this team.
The amount the Red Sox got hit.
Can not handle the stress of Rafaela, Devers, and O’Neil getting hit. Can not lose anybody else.
Bobby Dalbec
Might be time to retire the Bobby Dalbec experiment. I would have rather them get Joey Votto if they are just gonna waste a roster spot.
If you haven’t already please subscribe so I can fire Brett!
