The trailer for “The Clubhouse: A Year With The Red Sox” dropped today. It's pretty crazy that this documentary about a .500 team has FIVE more episodes than “The Comeback: 2004 Boston Red Sox, " which Netflix also produced.
From the trailer and poster, it looks like Triston Casas is going to be a central character here. My guess is it will be very “Triston Casas-esque.” I am withholding any judgment on what is shown. However, if the documentary comes out and he is not playing great, I believe we will see some fans get upset with him.
Overall Takeaway
Kind of fell off the high of last week with the Brayan Bello news, the entire team getting sick, and Rafael Devers still not playing. I still have the Red Sox as my World Series pick. It is 100% me being blinded my fandom, but you can’t argue with the Red Sox potentially being AL East favorites. After these Yankee injuries, they might have the most complete team in the divison.
What I Loved
Alex Bregman
Hand up, I was not someone pushing for the Red Sox to go and get Alex Bregman. I still have some reservations, but so far, during this spring training, he has shown himself to be a great leader and has performed well on the field—no complaints from me.
Ceddanne Rafaela
He has only struck out twice in 20 ABs. That is a significant improvement compared to last spring. Across the board, this spring has been better than last. Let’s hope that carries into the Regular Season.
Michael Fulmer
He has looked great so far, with 6.2 IP and one ER. Let’s not forget that he slid into a closer role a few years ago with Detroit and was solid.
Mayer and Anthony
Obviously, there are some concerns about Anthony losing over 10 pounds after getting the stomach bug. He returned yesterday, so let’s see what the next few days look like.
Mayer, on the other hand, continues to get on base. It is going to be a tough swallow if they get sent down in a week. I want them on the opening roster like I want air.
What I Was "Mid" About
Kristian Campbell Starting To Look A Little Better
He has four straight games with a hit, raising his average from .059 to .179. I know, “Spring Training Stats Don’t Matter,” but for him to break into the team early, he will have to show some life. Now he is.
Lucas Giolito Debut
I have to be mid on this one because of the injury. Does not seem to be anything serious, but no update so far on when he will jump on the mound. Giolito is calling it “not an injury.”
Editors Note: Giolito hit the IL ten minutes after I posted this.
I Want More Mikey Romero, Blaze Jordan, and Franklin AriasIn My Life
Combined, they have gotten a total of 15 PAs. Arias is further away than the other two, but I think Romero and Jordan could be potential trade pieces for the team at the deadline. I also own both of their Bowman 1st autos, so I want to see them succeed.
What I Didn't Love
Still No Rafael Devers
His Spring debut is pushed to Saturday. There are rumors going around on X that he is refusing to play in games because he is still upset about the Bregman situation. Cora needs to figure this out!
Triston Casas Still Not Doing Much
Funnily enough, I pre-wrote this, and he hit a home run against the Twins yesterday. People on Twitter are saying he “hit a second home run,” but the umps called it foul. In my book, that is a foul ball. Regardless, I need to see more from Casas.
Brayan Bello and Kutter Crawford
Both will not be ready for Opening Day. The Bello one kind of just snuck up on me, I was probably not looking at it enough. Very much need Giolito to get healthy!
Everyone Getting Sick
We had a stomach flu rip through our little school here in Massachussets as well. My guess is one of the students went to go see the Red Sox and brought it back to the classroom.
