EDITORS NOTE: I am finishing writing this blog in a CVS parking lot watching the bottom of the 9th inning on my Tesla (flex), and writing on my phone. Why? Cause I am married to the game of content. I also started a war with Brett last episode on his lack of content during Opening Weekend. I want to show him what is possible when you put in a little effort. Go Sox.
I am a big fan of the word defenestrate. I don’t know why, but I have started to use it a lot more. It has multiple meanings, which you can see below.
The Oakland A’s are not in a position of power. So, the definition we will use today is “throw (someone) out of a window.”
Overall Takeaway
The Boston Red Sox came out of a split series with the Mariners feeling pretty good about themselves. They were then handed the lowly Oakland A’s, who somehow won a game, to beat up on, and that is precisely what happened.
The biggest hick-up in this series was Brayan Bello’s start on Tuesday. He gave up two early HRs to Langeliers and Bleday, which gave the A’s an early lead. He was still able to get 6ks over five innings of work.
I'm still concerned about how deep the starters are going, but it is early in the season, so hopefully, that works out. But I am also starting to believe they could be a Wild Card team. Hopefully, they don’t break me.
What I Loved
Rafaela Defense
The game-saving grab in center last night was a thing of beauty. He had an error in Game 3, but I will blame that on Abreu. Even when he misses a ball, like today when it bounced off his wrist, he still looks cool doing it. His offense, however….
Houck Going Six Innings
You may never see this again, so cherish it.
Jarren Duran
In the last series review, I pointed out his great contact with a lack of results. Well, those results came in this series.
9-12, 2 RBI, great blonde hair.
Nick Pivetta
Has a sub-1.00 ERA through two games. I am a believer.
The Oakland A’s defense
Five errors on Monday was fun to watch.
Consistently made questionable plays all series.
What I Was “Mid” About
Rafael Devers
Is he hurt? Is he not hurt? He was terrible in this series, and I have to wonder if his shoulder is bothering him again. His dinky double does not count in my books. Was just a product of the A’s defense.
Triston Casas
I am keeping him mid for another series or two. By this time next week, he might be knocked down. He is around the Mendoza line but only a few games in, so who cares? He looked solid today and scored the only run. Biggest takeaway was realizing how slow he was. I must have blocked it from my mind.
I still love watching him do half-nude yoga in the outfield.
Trevor Story and Enmanuel Valdez
Can’t be screwing up double plays in 1-0 games.
Story starting to pick it up at the plate. 3-5 on Tuesday, but went hitless today.
What I Didn’t Love
Rafaela Offense
Is Rafaela going to become Jackie Bradley The Third? Grabbed a hit today and if he can get on base he will steal a ton. Pretty much our Estuary Ruiz.
Alex Cora
I know that analytically, I should be okay with Tyler O’Neill sitting certain games, but I don’t care. Abreu is hitting .150. Give me more TYLER. It has to be my favorite name outside of Dean.
Kenley Jansen
Back to back weeks in my no love category for Jansen. He got the save, but he never makes it easy.
