Every year I try and get into college baseball. Then I very much don’t. With Will from Overdue Sports going boots on the ground for the Big 12 games, I am hoping to fall in love with the game. Odds are I won’t, but a guy can dream.
What I do love is the MLB Draft. This week, ESPN, Baseball America, and many others released the predicted Top 10 picks.
I wanted to dig and see how these players were doing this year, both in college and high school. Turns out that is impossible for some of them.
Their stats are scattered across social media, multiple scouting websites, school website, and newspapers. So, I used Grok and Chat GPT to scrap the internet and pull their stats for this Spring where I could.
Again, this is NOT my Top 10 for the draft. I know next to nothing about College Baseball, I wanted to simply lay out the players for those of you who also don’t follow draft prospects.
Enjoy.
1. Ethan Holliday, 3B – Projected to Washington Nationals
School: Stillwater HS (Stillwater, OK)
The Nationals are likely to select Holliday first overall, banking on his elite bloodlines (son of Matt, brother of Jackson) and advanced bat to anchor their rebuild. His size and power make him a potential franchise cornerstone.
2025 Stats:
Games: Not available (high school stats inconsistently reported)
AVG / OBP / SLG: Not available
HR | RBI | SB: Not available
OPS: Not available
Note: Holliday’s stats are VERY difficult to find. To me, that is sign of a conspiracy to hide how bad he is doing.
Scouting Report:
Holliday boasts a smooth, compact swing with plus-plus power, generating exit velocities up to 111 mph with a wood bat. His approach is selective, though some swing-and-miss concerns arise from a longer swing path. Defensively, his plus arm and instincts suit third base, though he could move to a corner outfield spot. His intangibles—work ethic, baseball IQ, and pedigree—elevate his ceiling. Scouts see 30+ homer potential and compare him to his father, Matt Holliday.
2. Jamie Arnold, LHP – Projected to Los Angeles Angels
School: Florida State
As the top college pitcher, Arnold fits the Angels’ need for rotation help. His polish and ACC pedigree make him a safe, high-upside pick at No. 2.
2025 Stats:
GS: 11
W-L: 6–1
ERA: 2.21
IP: 61.0
K / BB: 82 / 21
WHIP: 1.00
Scouting Report:
Arnold’s low three-quarters arm slot delivers a 93–98 mph fastball with strong horizontal movement, paired with a plus mid-80s slider. His splitter-grip changeup shows above-average potential. He commands the zone well, with an intense mound presence and deceptive delivery. Arnold projects as a No. 2 starter and is often compared to Chris Sale due to his release angle and strikeout prowess.
3. Seth Hernandez, RHP – Projected to Seattle Mariners
School: Corona HS (Corona, CA)
Seattle’s history with high-upside prep arms makes Hernandez, with his 100 mph fastball and ace potential, a perfect fit at No. 3.
2025 Stats:
Pitching: 8–0, 0.17 ERA, 42.1 IP, 88 K, 3 BB
Hitting: .354 AVG, 5 HR, ~30 RBI
Scouting Report:
Hernandez is the top prep pitcher in the class. His fastball touches 100 mph with late ride, and his changeup is a dominant out pitch with excellent sink. He also features a curveball and slider that miss bats. With elite control and a polished delivery, Hernandez projects as a future ace. As a hitter, he also offers value, but his future lies on the mound.
4. Liam Doyle, LHP – Projected to Colorado Rockies
School: Tennessee
The Rockies, seeking durable arms for Coors Field, may turn to Doyle’s strike-throwing and swing-and-miss profile.
2025 Stats:
GS: 12
W-L: 9–2
ERA: 2.17
IP: 74.2
K / BB: 127 / 23
WHIP: 0.804
Scouting Report:
Doyle throws a 94–98 mph fastball with life and generates elite whiff rates. He mixes in a sharp slider and deceptive splitter, and has begun developing a cutter. His tempo and command make him a tough matchup, and his strikeout total led the NCAA. He could become a No. 2 starter or high-leverage bullpen weapon.
5. Kade Anderson, LHP – Projected to St. Louis Cardinals
School: LSU
Anderson’s velocity jump and success in the SEC make him a potential frontline starter for the Cardinals.
2025 Stats:
GS: 12
W-L: 8–0
ERA: 2.54
IP: 70.2
K / BB: 114 / ~20
Scouting Report:
Anderson features a fastball in the mid-90s with life, a tight-spinning slider, and a solid curveball/changeup combo. His command is standout, and he works efficiently. Anderson profiles as a No. 2 starter, with a delivery and athleticism that minimize reliever risk.
6. Billy Carlson, SS – Projected to Pittsburgh Pirates
School: Corona HS (Corona, CA)
Carlson offers elite defensive upside and offensive potential, fitting the Pirates’ trend toward up-the-middle athletes.
Games: Not specified
AVG: Not available
HR | RBI | SB: 11 extra-base hits (2025 data incomplete)
Pitching: Also a two-way player with a mid-90s fastball
Carlson is regarded as the best defensive shortstop in the prep class. He combines quick hands, a strong arm, and smooth footwork. Offensively, he makes consistent contact and shows signs of growing power. He profiles as a .280 hitter with 15–20 HR upside and comparisons to Masyn Winn.
7. Eli Willits, SS – Projected to Miami Marlins
School: Fort Cobb-Broxton HS (Fort Cobb, OK)
Willits’ top-of-the-lineup skillset and strong baseball instincts make him an ideal fit for the Marlins.
Stats not available (limited high school reporting)
Scouting Report:
A switch-hitter with plus speed, Willits shows strong plate discipline and advanced bat-to-ball skills. His defense at shortstop is steady with a quick release. He projects as a .300 hitter with 10–15 HR and 20+ SB potential. Scouts praise his high baseball IQ and leadership.
8. Aiva Arquette, SS – Projected to Toronto Blue Jays
School: Oregon State
Toronto could favor Arquette’s contact bat and mature approach at the plate.
2025 Stats:
Games: 7
AVG / OBP / SLG: .440 / .560 / .880
HR | RBI: 3 | 10
OPS: 1.439
Scouting Report:
Arquette hits for both average and power with a clean, repeatable swing. He has a good feel for the zone, walks more than he strikes out, and has defensive versatility. While he may move to third base, his offensive upside remains strong.
9. Jace LaViolette, CF – Projected to Cincinnati Reds
School: Texas A&M
LaViolette’s massive power and athleticism make him a high-risk, high-reward selection.
2025 Stats:
Games: 47
AVG / OBP / SLG: .280 / .437 / .622
HR | RBI: 17 | 55
OPS: 1.059
Scouting Report:
A 6’6” outfielder with some of the best raw power in the class, LaViolette also runs well and has a strong arm. While his strikeout rate is elevated, he offsets it with walks and home runs. If the hit tool improves, he could become a middle-of-the-order threat.
10. Kyson Witherspoon, RHP – Projected to Chicago White Sox
School: Oklahoma
The White Sox are likely to gamble on Witherspoon’s arm strength and projection at No. 10.
2025 Stats:
GS: 11
W-L: 8–2
ERA: 2.35
IP: 65.0
K / BB: 92 / 14
Scouting Report:
Witherspoon throws a mid-to-upper 90s fastball with ride and cut. His secondary pitches are still developing, but his strikeout rate and athleticism make him an exciting project. He has the ceiling of a top-of-the-rotation starter.
