About two months ago I wrote an article highlighting three players with surprisingly amazing baseball savant pages. Now that we are in the dog days of summer and most players have regressed to their averages, I decided to revisit this subject and take a look at a few more players with unexpectedly incredible Baseball Savant pages.
Ryan McMahon
Ryan McMahon has been one of the few bright spots on the historically bad 2025 Colorado Rockies. McMahon has been the starting third baseman for the Rockies for the past 7 years, and he has been a very consistent hitter, typically hitting 20-25 home runs and holding a batting average of around .240. While McMahon’s standard stats have been worse than usual (.215 AVG, 8 HRs, and 91 OPS+), his Baseball Savant page has been telling a completely different story. McMahon is experiencing a career high in average exit velocity, Barrel %, Hard Hit %, BB%, and XSLG. Additionally, since 2021, McMahon has been known as one of the best defensive third basemen in Major League Baseball, and 2025 has been no different. Currently, McMahon is in the 92nd percentile for Fielding Run Value, according to Baseball Savant. McMahon will certainly be an interesting trade target as the Rockies look to sell when the 2025 trade deadline arrives.
Nolan Schanuel
The Angels’ 2023 1st round draft pick, Nolan Schanuel, is only in his 2nd full season of Major League Baseball but has already become an integral part of the Angels’ lineup. While Schanuel is not the most prolific power hitter in the league, his patience and (points to Pete) ability to get on base rank him among the best in the MLB. Schanuel ranks in the top 80th percentile in Chase %, Whiff %, K %, BB %, and xBA. At only 23 years old, Nolan Schanuel is not only an analytical darling but also a player who has potential future all-star written all over him.
Michael Busch
For years, Michael Busch had been one of the most highly anticipated prospects in the Dodgers’ entire farm system. Now, in 2025, his true potential is starting to be realized; unfortunately, he is doing so as a part of the Chicago Cubs, not the Los Angeles Dodgers. Busch is in his second full MLB season and is thriving on offense. His Batting Run Value of 11 ranks him among the top 87th percentile of MLB hitters. Additionally, his xwOBA and xSLG both rank in the top 90th percentile. While Busch might be one of the worst fielding first basemen in the league, his hitting prowess has more than made up for his defensive shortcomings, as he has proven himself to be one of the best hitting first basemen in the MLB.
Ben Rice
I know I wrote an entire article solely dedicated to how incredible Ben Rice has been for the Yankees from an offensive standpoint, but his Baseball Savant page is so ridiculous that it felt wrong to exclude him. Rice’s page paints him as a no-doubt all-star rather than a player in his first full season in the MLB. Rice ranks in the 95th percentile in xwOBA, xSLG, AVG Exit Velocity, Barrel %, and Hard Hit %. Rice’s standard stats are not nearly as impressive as his advanced metrics; however, considering how hard he is hitting the ball and how high his expected stats are, it appears that Rice is due for an unbelievable stretch of outrageous hitting sooner rather than later.
