With the unfortunate news that Mike Trout will not be returning this season, there was a lot of hate coming his way. It's mainly by Yankee fans. Why? You may ask. Well, it is simple. Yankee fans are desperate to prop Judge up as the greatest player of this generation.
Like many, I am obligated to show straightforward evidence as to why that is not the case. Some will whine about how Trout has played more games. This is a simple rebuttal for us Trout fans, as the debate is “generation,” not two seasons.
Desperate and grasping at straws, they begin to attack Trout as a better defender than Judge, and that is all. That is when I know we got them right where we want them.
Let me show you why Yankee fans believe Trout is a superb defender.
Obviously, this catch is superb and will be featured in every highlight clip when Trout makes the Hall of Fame.
Editor's Note: This is just a fun tidbit: Judge did not make the HOF in my MLB The Show Franchise. He fell apart around 2026 and retired soon after. Trout is still playing at 48.
However, a couple of cool catches don’t equate to being a “great defender," frankly, Trout just isn’t.
dWAR
Trout- 2.6
Judge: 2.8
Errors
Trout- 21
Judge- 13
DRS
Trout: -7
Judge: +54
UZR
Trout: 6.8
Judge: 33.4
OAA
Judge: 15
Trout: 7
It is important to note that Trout is playing a “premium” position in CF, so these numbers might be skewed. However, Judge has also played almost 200 games in CF, and it hasn’t significantly affected his defensive metrics.
Why am I writing this quick little blog? Well, I get frustrated when Yankee fans on X are blind and can not praise other players. I love Rafael Devers, it doesn’t mean I am crowning him the greatest 3B of All-Time, because if I multiply his stats and divide the COVID season and carry X over Y I could say he is close to matching Mike Schmidt’s numbers. I don’t do that though.
The second reason I am writing this is because Brett “forgot his laptop” and couldn’t write a blog yesterday. That is why God made cell phones, but apparently that screen is too small for him.
Moral of the story, if you are going to argue that Mike Trout is some great defender, then do your research. And, if you say you are going to write a blog. WRITE THE BLOG.
Please consider subscribing below, so I can pay a ghostwriter to write blogs under Brett’s name.
