I recently started doing “threads” on X to get some much-desired engagement. I realized they also make great blogs, so here is one on Jackson Holliday.
Last week, I put out a blog on top prospects that haven’t “panned out” yet. Notice how I did not say they were “busts.” I got a lot of flack from people for having Jackson Holliday on the list. Frankly, he has been terrible, so I was justified by having him on the list in my opinion.
Regardless, I made a list of other Hall of Famers who were just as bad, or worse, than Holliday over their first 44 games. For reference, over 44 games, Holliday is hitting .176, 27 H, 5 HR, 21 RBI, and 25 Rs over that span.
Here ya go.
Brooks Robinson (Baltimore Orioles, 3B)
Hit .163 with 20 hits, 2 home runs, 8 RBIs, and 9 runs scored in his first 44 games.
Reggie Jackson (Kansas City/Oakland Athletics, OF)
He batted .217 with 33 hits, 4 home runs, 11 RBIs, and 22 runs scored.
Mike Schmidt (Philadelphia Phillies, 3B)
Had a .216 average with 27 hits, 3 home runs, 12 RBIs, and 10 runs scored.
Adrian Beltre (Los Angeles Dodgers, 3B)
Hit .224 with 33 hits, 3 home runs, 13 RBIs, and 11 runs scored.
Johnny Bench (Cincinnati Reds, C)
Batted .167 with 25 hits, 2 home runs, 14 RBIs, and 11 runs scored.
George Brett (Kansas City Royals, 3B)
Hit .208 with 27 hits, 1 home run, 10 RBIs, and 12 runs scored.
Barry Bonds (Pittsburgh Pirates, OF)
Batted .221 with 36 hits, 7 home runs, 19 RBIs, and 27 runs scored.
Cal Ripken Jr. (Baltimore Orioles, SS/3B)
He had a .150 average with 16 hits, 1 home run, 7 RBIs, and 6 runs scored.
Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels, OF)
.212 AVG, 29 H, 5 HR, 16 RBI, 21 R.
Which is about the same as he has done since 2020… hehe…
