Personally, I cannot be any more excited. Since the call-up of highly touted prospect Jasson Dominguez, the Yankees are 5-0. Is this a coincidence? Maybe. I'll say that numbers don’t lie, and Jasson Dominguez is putting up some ridiculous numbers since being promoted to the major leagues.
MLB Stats:
5 G | 21 PA | 5 R | 7 H | 1 2B | 3 HR | 5 RBI | .333 BA | .333 OBP | .810 SLG | 1.143 OPS
The fact that he is only 20 years old and doing this to professional pitching is mind-blowing. I know he is due to regress at some point, but let me bask in this moment. Let’s take a quick look into Jasson’s personal history and minor league resume. For starters, his father, Felix Dominguez, is a former baseball player and a massive Yankee fan. In fact, he named Jasson after Jason Giambi. It's weird, but I love it. At age 8, Jasson started to train to play baseball and ended up signing with trainer Ivan Noboa at age 13. Eventually, at the age of 16, Jasson decided to sign with the Yankees earning a $5.1 million signing bonus, the most money they had ever given a rookie free agent.
Following an excellent minor league career (stats below), he has now found his way into the heart of the Yankee lineup. The 5-tool phenom is looking every bit the part right now in the show, and it honestly feels a little too good to be true. In his major league debut against Houston, he hit a home run off the first swing in his first career at-bat against Justin Verlander. That home run made Domínguez become the youngest player in Yankee history to hit a home run in his major league debut. This hit alone helped Dominguez pass Yankees Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, Ross Moschitto, and Bobby Mercer to accomplish this feat. Those are some pretty notable names if you ask me. I am trying my best to keep my expectations in check, but it’s so hard to do when this kid just keeps progressing. I do have faith that the Yankees got a good player in Dominguez and we are witnessing the beginning of a beautiful career.
Minor League Stats:
295 G | 1315 PA | 212 R | 296 H | 54 2B | 11 3B | 36 HR | 154 RBI | 86 SB | .266 BA | .372 OBP | .431 SLG | .803 OPS
From a very early age, Jasson’s dad imagined his son would grow up to be a star baseball player and it looks like his prediction is starting to set in. If you are in any sort of fantasy baseball league, you should pick up Jasson Dominguez immediately. Welcome to the Bronx!
