Earlier this week on @InsideTheDiamnd, @OPS_BASEBALL and I went through some bats that have stood out to start the 2nd half. In this thread we'll look at hitters that were below league average in this 1st half, but have now elevated their production in the 2nd half. While we’re only a few weeks into the 2nd half of the 2025 MLB season, it’s always fun to look at who’s had a hot start post-all star break.
Shea Langeliers (C - ATH)
2nd Half Stats (Entering 8/6/25)
17 G
74 PA
.435 AVG
1.430 OPS
10 HR
18 R
17 RBI
.536 ISO
.588 wOBA
286 wRC+
2.0 fWAR
This stretch has been so impressive considering Langeliers posted a 91 wRC+ in the 1st half. He's currently tied with Kyle Schwarber, for 1st with 10 HR in the 2nd half so far. He leads the MLB in ISO in the 2nd half, and ranks 2nd in AVG, wOBA, and wRC+. Only to his teammate Nick Kurtz.
Luis Robert Jr. (OF - CHW)
2nd Half Stats (Entering 8/6/25)
13 G
54 PA
.383 AVG
1.019 OPS
3 HR
16 R
11 RBI
7 SB
.437 wOBA
184 wRC+
With a 176 wRC+ and a .990 OPS in July, the White Sox ultimately decided to hang onto Luis Robert. It's good they did as he's been great for over a month now. He's cut the K% down a lot to start the 2nd half, and still can have a 20/20 season with 12 HR and 29 SB.
Michael Harris II (OF - ATL)
2nd Half Stats (Entering 8/6/25)
17 G
72 PA
.362 AVG
1.027 OPS
3 HR
10 R
6 RBI
.434 wOBA
183 wRC+
Harris is another bat that's taken success in July into the 2nd half and the month of August. He posted a wRC+ of 48 in the 1st half and now in the 2nd, has a wRC+ of >180 in this few week sample size. He's striking out less and is slugging over .600 in this 2nd half.
Spencer Horwitz (1B - PIT)
2nd Half Stats (Entering 8/6/25)
17 G
68 PA
.350 AVG
.993 OPS
3 HR
10 R
15 RBI
.428 wOBA
177 wRC+
Horwitz only played 46 games in the 1st half but since returning has been great for the Pirates. His 2nd half wRC+ at the moment exceeds that of his 1st half by over 100 points. He's walked a lot so far this 2nd half, and has been an impact bat with 3 homers and 15 RBI.
Anthony Volpe (SS - NYY)
2nd Half Stats (Entering 8/6/25)
18 G
68 PA
.254 AVG
.945 OPS
7 HR
11 R
11 RBI
4 SB
.397 ISO
.390 wOBA
153 wRC+
Volpe has stood out maybe more defensively due to the errors as of late. However his bat has been nothing but productive for the Yankees when they collectively have been at their worst. While he still strikes out in the 2nd half at a 23.5% rate, he has almost a handful of SB and 7 HR!
Brandon Marsh (OF - PHI)
2nd Half Stats (Entering 8/6/25)
17 G
56 PA
.300 AVG
.912 OPS
3 HR
10 R
5 RBI
.389 wOBA
151 wRC+
Marsh was around league average in the 1st half at the plate, with a 96 wRC+. In the 2nd half however, he's been well above league average to start. Marsh deserves a mention here mainly for the fact that he's bounced back all year from a brutal start in Mar/Apr with a 14 wRC+. Since May 1st, he has a .302 AVG & 127 wRC+.
Colson Montgomery (SS - CHW)
2nd Half Stats (Entering 8/6/25)
16 G
62 PA
.258 AVG
.935 OPS
8 HR
10 R
22 RBI
.390 wOBA
152 wRC+
Since being called up Montgomery has been unbelievable for Chicago. 2nd in RBI in the 2nd half only to Kyle Schwarber, he's also 3rd in HR with 8. While the K% has been high in those 16 games, he's slugging almost .700, and still just 23-years-old. A remarkable stretch for a former top prospect.
Willy Adames (SS - SFG)
2nd Half Stats (Entering 8/6/25)
17 G
77 PA
.294 AVG
6 HR
15 R
13 RBI
.324 ISO
.421 wOBA
177 wRC+
After signing a big contract with SF, Adames had high expectations heading into this season. His 1st half was rather underwhelming with a .220 AVG and a 94 wRC+, but his start to the 2nd half is making up for it. He's got half of his 1st half HR total in 17 G, and is top 15 in ISO over this stretch.
