I’ll start here, I’m very pleased with the Dodgers deadline moves. They addressed a lot of different weak points and I am so happy they grabbed Flaherty in the 11th hour. So let’s dive in a little deeper:
In:
Jack Flaherty (DET)
Kevin Kiermaier (TOR)
Tommy Edman (STL)
Oliver Gonzales (STL)
Michael Kopech (CWS)
Amed Rosario (TB)
Moises Bolivar (BOS)
Out:
James Paxton (LHP)
Miguel Vargas (OF)
Alexander Albertus (SS)
Trey Sweeney (SS)
Thayron Liranzo (C)
Michael Flynn (RHP)
Ricky Vanasco (RHP)
Ryan Yarbrough (LHP)
Yohan Ramirez (RHP)
Upgrades across the board. With Chris Taylor hardly hitting his body weight, Amed Rosario and Tommy Edman are perfect to fit the platoon roles. Despite Edman not having played a game in 2024, I trust the gold glove versatility and very solid bat.Â
Michael Kopech addresses some much needed bullpen reinforcements with a triple digits fastball, Dodgers pitching lab will take him to the next level.Â
Kevin Kiermaier fills the Vargas void adding the one of, if not the best defensive outfielder of our generation. Feels like a good clubhouse guy, and I just want him to get a ring.
Oliver Gonzales and Moises Bolivar are two 17 year olds grabbed from STL and BOS. I don’t know much about either but taking a flier on these guys can work out. Gonzales stands at 6’4 215, a big frame.
Jack Flaherty is the one. The grab of the deadline for LA. Putting together a career year and didn't cost nearly as much as Kikuchi or Rogers. Trey Sweeney is a solid SS prospect but doesn’t possess a huge offensive upside, and with Will Smith grabbing a huge extension, there isn’t a ton of need for high prospect catchers right now. This is the starter they needed, and when the reinforcements comes back, they should be primed for a deep run.
Overall, I’m happy about what the Dodgers did. A huge return while only giving up one Top-12 Prospect (Trey Sweeney). Fingers crossed Dave Roberts can manage it properly.Â
