Brice Turang Has Solidified Himself As One Of The Best Second Baseman In Baseball
A Blog By Tobey
In his short career up to this point, 25-year-old Brice Turang has never been talked about as one of the best at his position. However, after the season he’s been putting together for Milwaukee, it looks safe to say that he has earned himself that title.
Turang played two seasons before 2025 where he seemingly took things to another level. In both 2023 and 2024, Turang posted a wRC+ under 100, but saw clear improvements between both years.

Changes like this allowed Turang to elevate his offensive production, raising his wRC+ from 62 to 88 in 2024. Those changes in his early-20’s gave some hope for more possible improvement as well at the plate for the following season. All while Turang ranked in the 90th percentile for Range with 6 OAA.
Now through 127 games, Turang has a career-high 120 wRC+ and 15 HR. His OPS on the year is a near 120 point increase. He’s seen a ridiculous change in his advanced profile, and it has worked wonders for the Brewers.
In 127 games this season with the Brewers:
477 AB
.285 AVG
.351 OBP
.430 SLG
15 HR
81 R
67 RBI
9.2% BB%
21.9% K%
.340 wOBA
120 wRC+
When we look at his 2024 advanced profile vs. his 2025 advanced profile, without a name above to tell you, one could easily think this is a completely different hitter.

Turang had awful numbers in terms of exit velocities and hard-hit contact to start his career. As already mentioned, those numbers increased in 2024, but now we can see truly how much his bat has changed in such a short span.
His AvgEV jumped from 87 mph to over 90 mph, while his Hard-Hit% went from just below 30% to over 45%. He’s managed to continue to square the ball up at an above average rate, while keeping the Whiff% from dipping too much while hitting for much more power.
When we analyze his season from a month to month basis however, we can see that while it's been a career year for Turang, it has been very up and down at times. In the first half of the season especially, we can see he goes back and forth from great production to lackluster.

Turang turned heads to start the season, hitting for a .317 batting average in the months of Mar/Apr where he posted a 120 wRC+ and 3 HR. In that stretch, he led the Brewers in AvgEV at 92.5 mph. This was ahead of bats like Christian Yelich, William Contreras, and Jackson Chourio.
The month of May was not as kind to him. In 25 games he had a .207 batting average, but still managed to walk at a near 15% clip. He hit more doubles in May, but only slugged one homer. The month of June was much better. He recorded a .333 batting average with a 135 wRC+. He also had only one homer, but seven doubles.
The month of July he slumped again. He had a .209 average and a 53 wRC+. This raised the question, is he going to be able to consistently hit, if he’s hitting for more power. He went into this second half with a lot to prove.
While the second half has only been 34 games, Turang has turned the production up again. This time to an even higher degree.

On a Brewers team that’s been absolutely surging recently since the All Star Break, Turang has been one of the best bats. Here’s how he ranks in each stat listed above, on the Brewers roster in the second half.

.366 OBP (4th)
.600 SLG (1st)

In terms of his Statcast metrics, they’ve taken a sharp spike up for the vast majority of numbers in the month of August. In this Rolling Statcast graph from @OPS_Baseball, we can see increases in Hard-Hit and Barrel%, as well as EV and wOBA.
He’s also managed to drop his SwStr% in the month of August, as well as lessen the amount of swings outside of the strikezone. With the Plate Discipline Rolling Charts (via @OPS_Baseball) we see here and the power production he’s put together all year, we don’t see too many second baseman putting together seasons like this offensively.
When we look at Turang’s production across all primary second baseman, he’s among one of the best in 2025 without a doubt. He’s currently rated as the 4th most valuable 2B by fWAR with 3.4.
Leaderboard: FanGraphs
When you set a time filter for the past calendar year, he still ranks among the top second baseman in terms of fWAR. When you set that time to the past two calendar years, he still ranks among the top five second baseman in fWAR (5.6).
Since getting acclimated to big league ball, Turang’s been one of the best at his position. This season has only cemented that. He’s helping a phenomenal Brewers team command a lead over the NL Central, and contributing more with the bat than he ever has.
While the OPS may be under .800 on the year, it’s safe to say that Brice Turang has been putting together a season that has made him known as one of the best second baseman in Major League Baseball.
