A Week of Heartbreaking Losses and Nail-Biting Victories
Greg's Weekly Wager Recap 4/21 - 4/27
This blog will start a new weekly series I will be writing on The Skipper’s View website. On X (GRMBets), I provide MLB gambling picks almost every day. In these blogs, I will be recapping the week I had gambling on Major League baseball. So far, for the 2025 MLB season, I have a record of 23-10 and have won 10.59 units so make sure to follow my X account if you're interested in MLB gambling content.
MONDAY (0-1, -1.0u)
My one pick on Monday was the afternoon Patriot’s Day game between the Boston Red Sox and Chicago White Sox. My pick was the Red Sox to score over 5.5 runs as a team. I was feeling really good early on as a 2nd inning solo home run by Rob Refsnyder was followed up by a 3-run bottom of the 3rd for the Red Sox. Boston held off a late comeback attempt by the White Sox but unfortunately failed to score any more runs in the remaining 5 innings of offense. Betting on the Red Sox offense against a putrid White Sox on Patriot’s Day seemed like a slam dunk, however, the Sox faded late in the game resulting in a loss for me on my first bet of the week.
TUESDAY (0-1, -1.0u)
I followed up a tough loss on Monday, with an absolute heartbreaker on Tuesday. My lone pick of the day was the Yankees to defeat the Guardians. Will Warren had a solid outing and a leadoff 1st inning home run by Ben Rice gave the Yanks an early lead. Unfortunately, a 3-run 6th inning for the Guardians proved to be the equalizer as the Yankees’ offense failed to capitalize on an incredible performance by Aaron Judge ( 4-4, 1 SB, 1 R) and ultimately lost 3-2 on the road in Cleveland.
WEDNESDAY (0-0, 0.0u)
I had no picks on Wednesday. After back-to-back losing days, nothing stuck out to be on the board so I decided to take Wednesday off and regroup for Thursday’s slate of games.
THURSDAY (2-0, +1.78u)
Finally, I was able to put together a winning day. I had the Orioles ML and Bobby Witt Jr over 1.5 total bases on my card. The Orioles and Nationals were playing an incredibly tight game for all 9 innings. Povich and Gore both pitched exceptionally well for their respective teams, however a 5th-inning rally for Baltimore proved to be the difference as the Orioles squeaked by a win by a score of 2-1 on the road in Washington. For my second pick of the day, I went to Kansas City where the Royals hosted the Rockies. I was stuck between picking Maikel Garcia's total bases prop or Bobby Witt Jr’s. I ultimately went with the more conventional pick of Witt and even though he made me wait until the bottom of the 6th, the bet cashed.
FRIDAY (0-0, 0.0u)
I took another day off this week as nothing on the board spoke to me.
SATURDAY (0-1, -1.0u)
I followed up a successful Thursday with just an all-around bad pick on Saturday. My only pick was the Angels ML and while my losses early in the week were certainly defensible picks, this one was not. The Twins jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st and never looked back. The Angels only put up a singular run all game and ultimately lost by a score of 3-1.
SUNDAY (1-1, -0.4u)
So for Sunday, I ended up picking the two most stressful games of the day. My first pick of the day, Rangers ML, was a heartbreaking loss. The Rangers' offense was on fire this game but could not convert their base runners into runs. With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth, the Rangers’ defense imploded resulting in a blooper-esque play and a loss. To end the night, I made a last-minute decision to back the ice-cold Philadelphia Phillies (and the ice-cold Aaron Nola) against the red-hot Chicago Cubs. Aaron Nola and Jamison Tallion engaged in an absolute battle that resulted in both pitchers throwing 7 solid innings each before handing the keys to the game over to their respective bullpens. Ultimately, the Phillies were able to work a few walks, knock a sacrifice fly to right field, and beat out an infield single in the top of the tenth resulting in two runs and a 3-1 lead. The Cubs were unable to answer in the bottom half of the inning and I was able to capture a late-night victory to end off the week.
OVERALL (4-4, -0.61u)
The past week was my worst of the MLB season so far resulting in a loss of over half of a unit. Fortunately, The Phillies squeaking out an extra-inning win at plus money certainly helped this week from being a disaster. There were far too many losses decided by errors or late-inning surges from the wrong team but, hey, that's gambling baby! Sometimes the ball bounces your way, sometimes it does not. This week, it did not. I am still up on the season and confident that this disappointing week will be an anomaly, rather than a trend.
