It’s been officially over a week since the 2025 MLB Draft ended, and with that more and more prospects are signing. With that being said, it’s worth looking back at some of the picks that were my personal favorites. For this blog we’ll look at one for each round (1-20).
1.6 Pittsburgh Pirates: Seth Hernandez (RHP - Corona, CA)
The upside and ace potential you get from Hernandez is such a good get at 6th overall. After getting what looks to be a star in Konnor Griffin last year, adding another young prep prospect, but this time on the mound sets up the future very nicely.
2.48 Athletics: Devin Taylor (OF - Indiana)
One of my favorite college bats in the class, his consistency gives the A’s system another college bat that’ll most likely fly through the system. Their young core continues to get deeper and better.
3.87 Boston Red Sox: Anthony Eyanson (RHP - LSU)
The Red Sox added so many great college arms in their class and a third round pick on Eyanson was the icing on the cake. An arm I thought would go in the first round fell right to Boston here in an incredible spot.
4.114 Cincinnati Reds: Mason Neville (OF - Oregon)
A premiere college power bat in the fourth round, Neville had the potential to go day one. A future in GABP has me really liking this selection from the Reds. 26 HR this past season for the Ducks, he was tied for the Division I lead. Amazing get at pick 114.
5.147 Tampa Bay Rays: James Quinn-Irons (OF - George Mason)
The Rays sniped a couple of outfielders one in Brendan Summerhill and another in JQI. A really fun combo of power and speed, I’m very intrigued to see how he develops within the Rays system.
6.185 Milwaukee Brewers: Daniel Dickinson (SS - LSU)
Dickinson’s plus hit tool should make him a fun bat to track within the Milwaukee system. He adds some great depth to their middle infield prospects within the system as well. Interested to see how the power looks at the pro level. 18 HR at Utah Valley and 12 this past season makes me think he could hit above the 40 grade.
7: 7.225 Los Angeles Dodgers: Mason Estrada (RHP - MIT)
Estrada already makes an intriguing pick out of MIT, but his stuff will be so fun to work with for the Dodgers. Fastball’s hit high-90s with a slider that’s even better. Dodgers got a bunch of great arms and Estrada is one of the highlights.
8.249 Detroit Tigers: Nick Dumesnil (OF - California Baptist)
An earlier mock of mine had the Tigers using their first round pick on Dumesnil, so him being snagged here in the 8th round is undoubtedly a favorite of mine. Dumesnil hit for less power in 2025, but still kept his average at .360. 60 grade speed in the outfield, I’m interested to see how the hit tool develops.
9.284 New York Yankees: Blake Gillespie (RHP - Charlotte)
I love this get for the Yankees. Among college arms that pitched 100 innings or more this year, Gillespie had the 3rd highest K/9. The only two arms ahead: Kade Anderson and Anthony Eyanson of LSU. The Georgia transfer was unhittable in the AAC with Charlotte, and he should be a great fit with the Yankees system.
10.298 Boston Red Sox: Maximus Martin (SS - Kansas State)
The Sox got another great college selection here with their 10th round pick. Martin has intriguing raw power, and seeing how he adjusts to the professional level will be fun to watch. Martin was phenomenal for Kansas State this past season, hitting .320 with a 132 wRC+.
11.321 Washington Nationals: Jack Moroknek (OF - Butler)
Moroknek ranked among the top of the Big East in almost every offense stat. He’s been incredible with Butler the last two seasons, with 31 HR. Very interested to see how he does in his first pro season after taking the jump from the Big East.
12.375 Los Angeles Dodgers: Logan Lunceford (RHP - Wake Forest)
Another premiere strikeout arm in the college crop gets snagged by the Dodgers. He had the 12th highest K/9 among all college pitchers, and the 2nd highest among ACC arms only behind Louisville’s Patrick Forbes. A plus fastball and changeup, we’ll see how the Dodgers continue to develop his other offerings.
13.376 Chicago White Sox: Rylan Galvan (C - Texas)
The White Sox have the future of their catching position up at the big league level already, but Galvan provides great depth to the position in the system. For what he offers defensively, I really like the pick, and a 1.065 OPS in the SEC this year gives more optimism for the development of the hit tool.
14.434 New York Yankees: Brennan Stuprich (RHP - Southeastern Louisiana)
The Yankees were another team that got a bunch of solid college arms late in this draft. SELA’s Brennan Stuprich is one of them. He recorded a 2.90 ERA in the Southland this season, with a near 11.0 K/9. He was very hard to navigate in 90 IP with a .204 BAA.
15.441 Washington Nationals: Jacob Walsh (1B - Oregon)
Getting one of the best bats in the Big Ten is another great pickup for the Nationals in the 15th round. Walsh OPS’d 1.086 for Oregon this year and hit 19 HR. Slightly overshadowed by the success of Mason Neville, I’m excited to see how his power develops with Washington.
16.490 San Diego Padres: Cardell Thibodeaux (OF - Southern)
One of the most intriguing bats in the portal got selected by the Pads in the 16th round. Thibodeaux had the highest OPS in Division I at 1.391 and the 4th highest wRC+ at 207. He clubbed 18 HR and swiped 24 stolen bases. Smaller than most, but a very toolsy outfielder.
17.507 Tampa Bay Rays: Brody Donay (C - Florida)
The hard-hit numbers and raw power of Donay makes this a very interesting late round pick. Donay hit 18 HR and 10 2B for the Gators in 2025, and had the 7th highest ISO in the SEC at .343. On top of the power production, the Rays get a .300 bat at 6-foot-5, 215 lbs.
18.539 Minnesota Twins: Matthew Dalquist (P - San Diego)
Dalquist intrigues me for the Twins for one major reason: the control. He owned a BB% under 4.0% in 81.1 IP for UCSD in 2025, good for top 20 among all Division I pitchers.
19.584 New York Yankees: Hayden Morris (P - Blinn College)
A JUCO arm in the 19th round standing at 6-foot-8 is a really interesting get for the Yankees. Morris tossed the most innings for Blinn in 2025 with 86.1 IP, and showed great strikeout stuff with an 11.05 K/9.
20.591 Washington Nationals: Juan Cruz (1B - Alabama State)
The draft started with the Nats and the final pick we’ll look at here is one from them in the 20th round. Cruz was another incredible bat out of the SWAC with Alabama State. He had the league's 3rd highest OPS at 1.172 with 14 homers. Recent Georgia commit.
