Over recent weeks, we've scaled down our online activity, including tweets, blog entries, and video uploads. There's only so much of Brett predicting, "HOT TAKE: Blake Snell will be a Yankee," that one can take. Moreover, I felt it was crucial for both myself and our team to take a breather and unwind before the season's hustle and bustle kicked off. However, as of 5 a.m. Wednesday, the baseball season officially commenced, albeit with a bit of a hiccup due to a bomb threat targeting Ohtani—a story that surprisingly flew under the radar, likely due to the early hour.
As I woke up, I tuned into the game and continued listening to it as background noise at work while navigating through a pile of emails, bracing myself for yet another monotonous day. Despite witnessing the Dodgers clinch a victory in what was an engaging match, the spark of "baseball is back" didn't quite hit me. Despite my appreciation for the effort to globalize the game and accommodate time differences, the anticipation for Opening Day, still a week away, dampens the excitement for these early games. And then the Ohtani/Ippei news hit.
I have become completely enamored by this drama, and after a nice break, I am back in full force. Click here and here for two blogs I have done on this drama. I have another one that will drop tomorrow after Shohei speaks to the media.
Shifting the focus to my ambitions for 2024, I've outlined several ambitious goals below. Achieving them might be a tall order, and I'm mindful of the uncertainty ahead. Yet, living in an era where a single tweet about Kate Middleton on one of my accounts reaches two million views shows me the unpredictable nature of social media.
Reflecting on my journey with baseball, I realize that last year marked a rekindling of my passion for the sport. Despite my lifelong fandom, there was a decade, from 2013 to 2023, when my enthusiasm waned, leaving me feeling disconnected despite my knowledge and loyalty to the Red Sox. However, initiating our Twitter account and re-engaging with the baseball community reignited the fervor of my youth. This renewed obsession with baseball has been incredibly fulfilling, and I'm eager to see where this passion leads us in the upcoming season.
Let's take a closer look at the goals I've set for this year:
